Name: Elisa Maria Maza, Detective 2nd Class

Sexuality: Heterosexual; currently romatically interested in Goliath

Appearance: Elisa is 5'8", with waist-length black hair, and brown eyes. She has a medium-dark complexion due to her ethnicity, which is half Hopi Indian and half African-American. Her usual outfit consists of blue jeans, a black T-shirt, black boots, and her signature red bomber jacket. She wears a brown leather shoulder holster for her gun on her right side. Her backup pistol is in an ankle holster. Although slender in build, she possesses an uncanny agility and above-average strength for her size, particularly in fighting. She wears little in the way of makeup, but is generally considered very pretty in an exotic way.

Personality: Elisa is first and foremost, a protector. She is extremely loyal to friends and her family, and the Manhattan Clan of gargoyles. As the oldest of three children, Elisa has natural leadership qualities, which are vividly displayed in the series as extreme independance (such as protesting being assigned a partner, and refusing a desk job after being shot). She isn't afraid to speak her mind and often does so without being invited. Despite this, she is very shrewd and often able to read people's motives just from observing them. Although originally skeptical about anything supernatural or magical (which put her completely at odds with her conspiracy-obsessed partner, Matt Bluestone) she has reluctantly changed her outlook to accept everything from Loch Ness Monsters to fairies and aliens. (Having met all of the above in person.) It's not unusual for her to crack a joke or two when confronted with something new and inexplicable.

Elisa has also, over the last two years, developed romantic feelings for Goliath, the leader of the Manhattan Clan. Although they both have been reluctant to admit them, they've also kissed on at least one (canon) occasion.

Abilities/Weaponry: Elisa carries a standard police issue 9mm semi-automatic, as well as a backup pistol. At present she has the standard two spare clips of ammunition, as well as a backup clip of iron bullets (something she's found extremely prudent to carry, given her frequent run-ins with magical creatures). She is an excellent marksman and has been known to use use pretty much anything as a weapon when required. An accomplished hand-to-hand fighter as well, Elisa is able to take down opponents larger and stronger than she is, partly due to her police training but also from growing up with two siblings.

Weaknesses: Elisa is often implusive and can even be reckless when it comes to defending someone she cares about. She's been known to rush into dangerous situations without backup (something which infuriates her Captain and her partner) and prefers working alone to working as part of a team. She also holds a serious grudge, as demonstrated with David Xanatos, and some even say she'd use questionable tactics to bring in criminals.

History: Elisa was born in 1968, the eldest child of Peter and Diane Maza. After majoring in Psychology at Columbia, she followed family tradition by entering the NYPD, and by 1994, had already become a Detective Second Class in the 23rd Precinct.

Her younger brother, Derek, later joined the NYPD and became an accomplished helicopter pilot. He was later hired by David Xanatos as a personal bodyguard, which eventually led to him being injected with a mutagenic formula that changed him into a anthromorphic panther called Talon. Elisa still holds a bitter grudge against Xanatos over this event. Her younger sister, Beth, attended the University of Phoenix in Arizona and majored in Anthropolgy, the same as their mother. As their big sister, Elisa often tries to point out what's best for them, even when it's not appreciated.

Elisa first met the gargoyles while investigating the mysterious disturbances at the Aerie Building, caused by the first clash between Goliath's clan and the Xanatos Goon Squad. She was originally frightened enough by Goliath and Bronx to fall off the battlements of Castle Wyvern, but Goliath saved her life and in that way, helped to convince her that the gargoyles were not evil monsters. She quickly came to learn their true nature and befriend them, saving Goliath from the Xanatos Goon Squad in Central Park (he was not actually in danger from them, but neither she nor Goliath knew that), and warning him about Xanatos's true nature in time for Goliath to save the other gargoyles from the Steel Clan. From then on, Elisa was the clan's closest human friend.

Over the next two years, Elisa remained steadfastly loyal to the Manhattan Clan, even though it constantly puts her life in danger and has even taken her around the world, courtesy of the Avalon World Tour. She has been transformed into a gargoyle, had her memory wiped, and numerous attempts have been made on her life, including by Xanatos, the Pack, Demona, the Hunters, Oberon, and the Quarrymen. Despite this, she has managed to maintain her position on the NYPD force, and help the Manhattan Clan acclimate to the present world.
